With their 30th birthdays looming and desperation growing, they decide that in this 24/7, celebrity-obsessed world of over-shared navel-gazing, there are more ways to get famous than ever before – so why not become famous by the end of the day, at any cost? NERDLAND is the wild tale of two slacker best friends, aspiring actor John (Paul Rudd) and wannabe screenwriter Elliot (Patton Oswalt), who have seen their dreams of super-stardom fizzle. We said in our review, “Providing an escape valve for Andrew Kevin Walker, known for far more serious films about would-be serial killers ( 8MM, Seven), Nerdland is an almost biting commentary on Hollywood that would appear to be more at home on the small screen (had it not been crudely drawn for Cinemascope).” Judging from the trailer, if one is a fan of Bojack Horseman, this could be a worth double feature after finishing up the last season. Featuring the huge voice cast of Paul Rudd, Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress, Reid Scott, Mike Judge, Riki Lindhome, Kate Micucci, Laraine Newman, Brendon Small, John Ennis, and Paul Scheer, the first trailer has now arrived. Directed by Chris Prynoski, Nerdlandfollows two slackers who are attempting to make it big in Hollywood in unusal ways. As the writer of Se7en and 8mm, one might not expect Andrew Kevin Walker to write an animated comedy featuring some of today’s top talent in the field, but here we are.
